Would you take a fourth placed finished this season, Liverpool fans…?
Most probably would, although one day under Jurgen Klopp our ambitions will be much higher.
Jamie Carragher, our legendary former centre-back, thinks Liverpool will indeed finish in the Champions League places, for the first time since the 2013/14 season – when we came second – agonisingly missing out on the title on the last day of the campaign.
The Sky Sports pundit told Goal that he doesn’t think there’ll be many surprises, but has pipped us to reach the promised land ahead of the North London clubs we’ve so far outplayed: Arsenal and Tottenham.
“I think we go back to the norm,” he began. “I know Leicester fans may not like me to say that. But I think the heavyweights will come back.
“I’d expect the top four to consist of Man City, Man United, Chelsea and I think Liverpool might get in there.
“I think the fact that Liverpool have got no European football, the same as Chelsea, is a massive advantage they have on the others.”
It’s going to be very tough to finish ahead of the Manchester clubs following their practically offensive summer spending and the fact we didn’t spend a penny in net terms. Chelsea have a superb squad too, and like us, will be fresh with European football.
With Liverpool, it’s about keeping our best players fit and putting away bad teams. If we can do that, we have a genuine chance – especially ahead of Spurs and Arsenal who’ll be fighting tooth and nail in the Champions League.
