France’s L’Equipe say the centre half is more determined than ever to fight for his place at Liverpool.
Earlier today, English reports claimed Mamadou Sakho would remain at Liverpool this season despite the risk that it would mean a year stuck in the reserves for the 26-year-old centre half. France’s RNC Radio, on the other hand, believed he was willing to depart Liverpool on loan—but only if it was to return to his homeland for the season.
It opened up the possibility for the briefest moment that after rejecting moves to Stoke City and Besiktas, Sakho could still be departing Liverpool on transfer deadline day. Now, though, French football authorities L’Equipe appear to have put an end to any speculation, insisting that the player is determined to remain at Anfield.
They report that Sakho “delights in the club” and isn’t willing to give up on his career at Anfield so easily, and that he is convinced that, despite the struggles over the summer, he can still win Klopp over–or “seduce” him, even—even if it means that he has to work his way back into the first team picture from a place in the reserves.
Before a false charge of having taken a banned performance enhancing drug, Sakho appeared a lock to be one of Liverpool’s first choice centre halves under Klopp and a likely partner for Joël Matip this season. Hopefully, if he does remain at the club, he will be successful in his efforts in winning the manager back over.
